
In a separate move, Waleed Farahat, who spent seven-plus years at Rethink, most recently as vice president of technology, joined KUKA North America as vice president of technology development. When Rethink closed its doors in October, it reportedly had 91 employees, including 71 in Boston.

Kurt Reiner, who spent four-plus years at Rethink, with three as vice president of software development, has joined Universal as senior director of engineering for the Americas. Fitzgerald spent six-plus years at Rethink, the last year-plus as vice president of product. Other hires include Matt Fitzgerald, who joined Universal Robots as global director of product management. Last year, Lawton served as chief 0perating officer. He spent more than five years at Rethink, including four as chief product officer and chief marketing officer. Jim Lawton has joined Universal Robots as vice president of product management and marketing. Universal recently opened an office less than half a mile away, but it will no longer stay there. A Universal Robots spokesperson told The Robot Report, a sibling site to Collaborative Robotics Trends, that the company is taking over Rethink’s former office at 27 Wormwood Street in Boston. Odense, Denmark-based Universal Robots has hired more than 20 former Rethink Robotics employees, primarily within engineering and product development roles.
